On Oct. 17, 2021, at approximately 7:51 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department assisted the Signal Hill Police Department with a traffic collision near the area of Willow Street and Myrtle Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

It was determined the collision occurred in The City of Long Beach at approximately 7:00 p.m.

Through their preliminary investigation, detectives learned a red sedan traveling eastbound on Willow Steet struck a 65-year-old male pedestrian crossing southbound in the unmarked crosswalk at Myrtle Avenue. The red sedan fled the scene and did not return. Long Beach Fire Department responded and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The identification of the pedestrian is being withheld pending next of kin notification by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

At this time, it is unknown if alcohol, drugs, or speed were a factor in this collision, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Detective K. Johansen or Detective K. Myers of the Long Beach Police Department’s Collision Investigation Detail at (562)570-5130.
