On January 22, 2020 at approximately 8:20 p.m., officers responded to the area of Palo Verde Avenue and Atherton Street regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian injury traffic collision, which resulted in the death of a female adult.

Upon arrival officers located a critically injured female pedestrian on Palo Verde Avenue north of Atherton Street. The pedestrian, who sustained major injuries to her upper torso, was transported to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire Department personnel. The pedestrian later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

The pedestrian has been identified as 32-year-old Kymberly Davenport of Long Beach.

The preliminary investigation revealed, an 18-year-old male resident of Downey was traveling southbound Palo Verde Avenue, in the # 1 lane, north of Atherton Street in a 2019 Dodge pickup, when the female pedestrian entered into the southbound traffic lanes of Palo Verde Avenue from the west curb of Palo Verde Avenue, mid-block and outside of a crosswalk. Upon entering traffic, the pedestrian was struck by the Dodge pickup.

The driver cooperated with the investigation and was released from the scene pending further investigation. Speed, cell phone distraction and/or D.U.I. are not considered factors in this collision.
