On Saturday, September 26, 2020, at approximately 12:15 a.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Technology Place and Pacific Coast Highway, regarding an injury traffic collision, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers found a 2013 Ram 1500 pick-up truck that rear-ended a tractor-trailer in the westbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway, west of Technology Place.

The Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene and rendered aid to the sole driver of the pick-up truck. The 40-year-old driver, who was a resident of Long Beach, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries sustained during the collision. The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pick-up truck was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound Pacific Coast Highway. The tractor-trailer was stopped at a red light westbound Pacific Coast Highway at Technology Place and begun to accelerate through a green light when the pick-up truck rear-ended the tractor-trailer.

It is unknown if distracted or impaired driving were a factor in the collision at this time.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Detective Shawn Loughlin of the Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail at (562) 570-5520.
