Original Release 3/27/23
On Feb. 19, 2023, at approximately 6:30 p.m., patrol officers were working near the area of Pacific Coast Highway between Pasadena Avenue and Linden Avenue when they discovered the scene of an injury hit-and-run traffic collision, which later resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers observed a male adult victim lying in the lanes of traffic. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, a pedestrian, was crossing Pacific Coast Highway when he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling westbound. The vehicle subsequently fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries at the time.
The pedestrian’s medical condition continued to deteriorate from the time the collision occurred until he succumbed to his injuries on March 24, 2023. On March 27, 2023, LBPD Collision Investigation Detectives received confirmation that the victim had passed away.
The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending the identification and notification to the next of kin, which will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.
While the investigation remains ongoing, there is no known suspect information at this time; however, the preliminary investigations suggest the suspect’s vehicle was a dark-colored sedan.
