On Oct. 6, 2021 at approximately 5:51 a.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Lewis Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult pedestrian in the roadway and began performing life-saving measures until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived. Despite their efforts, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was determined deceased at the scene by Fire Department personnel.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestian was crossing southbound on Pacific Coast Highway, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. The vehicle, a 2009 Honda Pilot, was being driven by a 24-year-old resident of Signal Hill. The driver had a valid license and remained on scene to cooperate with the investigation. At this time, speed, impaired driving, and distracted driving are not believed to be a factor in this collision.

The identity of the pedestrian is unknown. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office will identify the decedent and notify the next-of-kin.
