On Aug. 5, 2021 at approximately 5:54 p.m., officers responded to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Hayes Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim in the roadway suffering from injuries to his upper torso. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and despite their life-saving measures, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was standing in the street near the north curb of Pacific Coast Highway and suddenly ran southbound across lanes of traffic. The pedestrian was then struck by a semi-truck.

The identity of the pedestrian is unknown and will be determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office. The driver was identified as a 46-year-old resident of Los Angeles who had a valid commercial driver’s license.

Speed, distracted driving and driving under the influence were not considered to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown whether the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
