On Dec. 22, 2020 at approximately 8:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision at Pacific Coast Highway and Harbor Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an unconscious male pedestrian on the roadway suffering from serious injuries. Officers began life-saving measures until personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and continued to administer life saving measures. Long Beach Fire personnel then transported the victim to a local hospital.

The preliminary investigation found that the driver of a blue Honda Civic failed to yield for the pedestrian as he was crossing Pacific Coast Highway in a marked crosswalk. The driver failed to stop and continued eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway.

On Dec. 31, 2020, the Long Beach Police Department was notified the victim passed away at the hospital. The victim was identified as 62-year-old James Herbert Lee Jones, a resident of Long Beach.
