On June 13, 2023 at approximately 8:44 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Cerritos Avenue, regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a 2018 Dodge Challenger that had struck a male adult pedestrian. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and performed life-saving medical aid, however the pedestrian was determined deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed the 2018 Dodge, driven by a male resident of Long Beach, was traveling eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway, east of Cerritos Avenue, when the pedestrian was crossing northbound in lanes of traffic outside of a crosswalk on a scooter. The driver of the Dodge was unable to stop or avoid striking the pedestrian.

The pedestrian's identification is being withheld pending notification to next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

The Dodge was being driven by 21-year-old male resident of Long Beach, who remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Speed, drugs, and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this collision.
