A fatal traffic collision on Aug. 29, 2021 resulted in the death of a male adult.

On Aug. 29, 2021 at approximately 4:34 p.m., officers were dispatched to a traffic collision in the area of Pacific Avenue and 32nd Street. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered an injured motorcyclist. Officers performed life saving measures until the Long Beach Fire Department responded and transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by a 23-year-old male resident from the City of Long Beach, was traveling northbound on Pacific Avenue when he lost control of his motorcycle. The motorcycle struck a curb, causing the driver to become separated from the motorcycle.

The motorcycle continued traveling northbound without the driver, until it was struck by a 2010 Ford Mustang, also traveling northbound Pacific Avenue.  The driver of the Mustang was identified as a 21-year-old resident from the City of Compton, who cooperated with the investigation, and was released from the scene.

At this time, it is unknown if impairment was a factor in this collision. However, speed is being investigated as a possible factor in the collision.  The identity of the motorcycle rider is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Detective Shawn Loughlin or Detective Kelsey Myers of the Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail at (562)570-7355.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous, may submit a tip through "LA Crime Stoppers" by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), downloading the "P3 Tips" app to your smartphone (available at the Apple App store and Google Play), or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.
