On Thursday, October 1, 2020 at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Orange Avenue and 20th Street regarding an injury traffic collision. 

Upon arrival, officers located a 1999 Toyota Solara had collided with several parked vehicles. Long Beach Fire personnel arrived on scene and transported a passenger that was in the Toyota Solara to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries at the time. 

On October 3, 2020, detectives from the Collision Investigation Detail were notified the passenger, 41-year-old Chap Choun of Long Beach, had succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the 1999 Toyota Solara, 51-year-old Chhoeup Khim of Long Beach, had collided with several parked vehicles while driving under the influence of alcohol. Khim was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence and has also been booked for vehicular manslaughter.
