On February 11, 2018, at approximately 4:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to the overpass of eastbound Ocean Boulevard to the North I-710 Freeway regarding an injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle, later resulting in the death of a male adult.

Officers arrived on scene and discovered a 2005 Honda motorcycle lying on its side on the overpass. The rider was found in a construction area below the overpass after being ejected from the motorcycle.

The preliminary investigation determined the Honda, being ridden by a 24-year old male from Los Angeles, split lanes between two vehicles on the overpass. The motorcycle continued into the right lane on the overpass after passing the vehicles before it collided with the guard rail. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle over the guard rail.

Long Beach Fire Department responded and transported the male motorcyclist to a local area hospital with critical injuries. The rider was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Identification of the rider is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin. Alcohol/drug intoxication are not believed to be involved. The investigation is ongoing.
