On Oct. 5, 2021 at approximately 03:01 a.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision on the northbound 710 Freeway in the area of the 9th Street offramp.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male pedestrian in the roadway. The Long Beach Fire
Department responded to the scene and determined the pedestrian was deceased.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking northbound along the right shoulder of the northbound 710 Freeway and crossed into lanes of traffic. A white SUV traveling northbound in the #2 lane collided with the pedestrian and fled the scene. Detectives are investigating if the pedestrian was struck by a second vehicle.

The pedestrian was identified as a 33-year-old resident of Long Beach. His identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
