On 06/19/2021 at 1:41 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and Wardlow Road regarding an injury traffic collision. Upon their arrival, they discovered a collision had occurred between an off-highway motorcycle and a Toyota Rav4. Officers provided first aid to the motorcycle rider until the Long Beach Fire Department responded. The fire personnel transported the rider to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the Toyota Rav4, driven by a 23-year-old resident of Long Beach, was making a left turn from southbound Long Beach Boulevard to eastbound Wardlow Road. As the vehicle was completing its turn, it was struck by a 2006 Yamaha YZ450F traveling northbound Long Beach Boulevard.

The driver of the Toyota Rav4 was identified by her valid California driver’s license. She remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. She was released pending further investigation.

The identity of the off-highway motorcycle rider is being withheld pending next of kin notification. The rider of the off-highway motorcycle had a valid M1 endorsement, however he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Speed may have been a factor in this collision. Driving under the influence and distracted driving are not believed to have been contributing factors in this collision.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective K. Myers or Detective S. Loughlin of the Long Beach Police Department’s Collision Investigation Detail at (562) 570-7355.
