A traffic collision results in the death of a male adult motorcyclist

On Jan. 27, 2023, at approximately 6:57 p.m., officers responded to a reported injury traffic collision near the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and Ellis Street, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a motorcyclist who had sustained significant injuries to his lower body due to a collision. Officers rendered aid until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department personnel who determined the motorcycle driver had succumbed to his injuries and was deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Kawasaki, driven by a male adult, was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Long Beach Boulevard. A 2014 GMC, driven by a male resident of Long Beach, was traveling southbound on Long Beach Boulevard and attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot, in front of the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist collided with the GMC and the driver was launched from the motorcycle. The motorcycle continued sliding northbound, striking a parked unoccupied truck in a parking lot on the east side of the street. The driver of the GMC remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation; At this time, he was not believed to be driving while distracted nor under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The decedent's identity is being withheld pending the notification to the next of kin which will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
