On Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022, at approximately 12:42 a.m., officers responded to the area of Long Beach Boulevard and 27th Street regarding an injury traffic collision involving a
vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult pedestrian in the street suffering from critical injuries as the result of a traffic collision. Officers rendered aid until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department personnel who ultimately determined the pedestrian deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Toyota Camry, driven by a male adult resident of Long Beach, was traveling northbound on Long Beach Boulevard. As the driver was crossing 27th Street he struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street in a wheelchair at Long Beach Boulevard in a marked crosswalk.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

At this time, it is unknown if the driver or the pedestrian had the right of way, however, neither speed nor distracted or impaired driving is believed to be a factor in this collision.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and will work to determine the pedestrian's identity and notify the next of kin.
