On Monday, February 3, 2020 at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers responded to the area of Harbor Scenic Drive and Ocean Boulevard regarding a single vehicle injury traffic collision involving a male adult trapped inside his vehicle, which resulted in the death of the male adult.
When officers arrived on scene, they located the collision site in an embankment between a vehicle and a tree off of Harbor Scenic Drive. It was determined that a single vehicle collided into a tree and there were no other occupants inside the vehicle.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and paramedics attempted life saving measures but the driver succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2014 Honda Civic was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Harbor Scenic Drive, south of Ocean Boulevard, at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of his vehicle causing it to strike the north curb line of the roadway. The vehicle continued westbound striking a pole and multiple trees in the embankment.
The driver had a valid driver's license and it is believed drugs and/or alcohol are possible factors in the collision.
The driver has been identified as Carlos Robles, 29-year-old resident of the City of Carson.
