Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on Aug. 3, 2024 which resulted in the death of a male adult.

At approximately 9:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of East 7th Street and St. Louis Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers contacted a male pedestrian in the roadway and immediately rendered medical aid. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown driver driving a dark-colored SUV westbound on 7th Street, struck the adult male pedestrian who was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk. The dark-colored SUV immediately fled the scene and did not return.

On Aug. 16, 2024, detectives from the Collision Investigation Detail were notified the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The pedestrian has been identified as Anthony Tapia, a 48-year-old person experiencing homelessness.
