On June 22, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of Bellflower Boulevard and Anaheim Road for an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Alongside responding LBPD officers—officers from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Police Department also responded and located a motorcyclist down in the roadway on Bellflower Boulevard, south of Anaheim Road. The VA officers attempted life-saving measures on the downed motorcyclist until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived. The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identification is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 60-year-old female resident of the City of Cypress, was driving a 2015 Honda Civic northbound on Bellflower Boulevard from 7th Street. The driver suddenly swerved into the southbound lanes of traffic and collided with a 49-year-old male resident of Long Beach, who was riding a 2019 Honda CBR600 motorcycle. The driver of the Honda Civic was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of injuries she sustained in the collision.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office responded to assist in the investigation.

Speed, distracted driving, and driving under the influence are not believed to be factors in the collision at this time.
