On Sept. 16, 2022, at approximately 9:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 19th Street regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon officers’ arrival, good Samaritans were already rendering aid to the driver of the motorcycle. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the motorcycle driver to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Atlantic Avenue approaching 19th Street, when a 2014 Toyota Tundra driven by a 59-year-old male resident of Long Beach, pulled out in front of him while making a left-hand turn form eastbound 19th Street to northbound Atlantic Avenue. The motorcycle was unable to avoid the Toyota and the collision occurred.

Alcohol, drugs and distracted driving were not believed to be a factor in the collision for the driver of the Tundra.

The driver of the motorcycle is only being identified as an adult male, pending next of kin notification.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to call Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail Detective Shawn Loughlin or Detective Kelsey Myers at (562) 570-7355.
