On Feb. 10, 2022 at approximately 8:32 p.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision in the area of Artesia Boulevard and Orizaba Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male pedestrian trapped underneath a vehicle. The Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene and extricated the pedestrian from underneath the vehicle. The pedestrian was determined deceased at the scene by Fire Department personnel.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Lincoln MKS driven by a 17-year-old male resident of Long Beach, was traveling eastbound on Artesia Boulevard when he struck a pedestrian who was lying down in the roadway. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
A Los Angeles County Coroner Investigator responded to the scene and will assist detectives in identifying the pedestrian.

The 17-year-old driver did not have a driver's license. He was identified by his California Identification Card and was released to his parent at the scene.

Distracted driving, speeding and impaired driving do not appear to have been a factor in this collision.
