On May 26, 2021 at approximately 9:14 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Orange Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a female adult.

Upon arrival, officers observed Long Beach Fire Department personnel already on scene as they performed life-saving measures to a female pedestrian who was lying in the roadway west of the intersection. Fire Department personnel transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian, who has not been identified, was crossing Artesia Boulevard northbound near a crosswalk on the west side of the intersection. However, the pedestrian was crossing against a red signal and upraised red hand indicating, "Don't Walk."

The pedestrian was hit by a 1997 BMW 528I that driven by a 29-year-old male resident of Long Beach, who was driving westbound on Artesia Boulevard. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol, drugs, and distracted driving are not believed to be a factor in the collision for the driver. The driver had a valid license.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident, or who can help identify the pedestrian, is asked to call Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail Detective K. Johansen or Detective S. Loughlin at (562) 570-7355. Anonymous tips may be submitted through "LA Crime Stoppers" by calling 800-222-TIPS (8477), downloading the "P3 Tips" app to your smartphone (available at the Apple app store or Google Play), or by visiting www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
