When officers arrived, they located a pedestrian in the roadway having sustained several injuries. Long Beach Fire Department Personnel arrived on scene, began administering medical aid but the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 1997 Dodge Dakota, driven by a 61-year-old female resident of Bell Gardens, was traveling eastbound Artesia Boulevard when she struck a female adult pedestrian who was in the roadway outside of the marked crosswalk just east of Butler Avenue.
The driver of the Dodge Dakota remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Neither alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving were a factor for the driver. She was positively identified with her valid driver's license, had proof of insurance and was released from the scene.
The pedestrian has not been identified. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office is working on identifying the decedent and will make notifications to next of kin.
Anyone with information regarding the collision are asked to contact Detective David Lauro of the Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail at (562)570-7355.
