On Nov. 16, 2022 at approximately 3:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of 7th Street and Rose Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision that resulted in the death of a male adult pedestrian.
When officers arrived on scene, they located a pedestrian lying in westbound lanes of 7th Street, being treated by paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department. Despite their best efforts, the pedestrian died of his injuries at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer was traveling westbound on 7th Street. As the vehicle crossed the intersection of 7th Street and Rose Avenue, it collided with the pedestrian who was in the intersection.
The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old resident of Long Beach, remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The name and age of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner.
At this time, speed is being investigated as a factor in the collision. Neither distracted driving nor impaired driving appear to be a factor.
