On July 17, 2021 at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision in the area of 7th Street and Ohio Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a male adult victim in the roadway in need of medical attention. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported him to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2010 Ford Mustang, driven by Humberto Mendez Chavez of Long Beach, was traveling westbound on 7th Street when he struck the victim riding a VEO Electric Scooter in the roadway. Chavez remained on scene and it was determined he was driving with an expired driver’s license.

At this time, the decedent is only being identified as a 32-year-old male resident of the City of Orange. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office was notified and will contact next of kin.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact L.B.P.D Collision Investigation Detective Kevin Matter or Detective Kevin Johansen at (562) 570-7355.
