On Jan. 28, 2022 at approximately 2:07 a.m., officers were dispatched to a single vehicle traffic collision at the 710 Freeway on-ramp, north of Ocean Boulevard, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an unconscious male driver inside a 2013 Honda Civic suffering from serious injuries. Officers began life-saving measures until personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and continued to administer life saving measures. Long Beach Fire personnel transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a gray Honda Civic was heading northbound on the on-ramp when he failed to turn with the curved on-ramp and collided with a metal guard rail.  Speed is believed to have been a factor in the collision. Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor in the collision.

At this time, the driver is only being identified as a 23-year-old male resident of Compton, pending notification of next of kin.
