On Sunday, February 2, 2020, at approximately 5:25 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department were dispatched to the area to the 6900 block of Atlantic Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision where a person was possibly ejected from a vehicle.
When officers arrived on scene it was determined a single vehicle collided into a parked vehicle. Officers found the driver had been ejected from the vehicle and was lying in the roadway just south of her vehicle. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. Long Beach Fire personnel responded and transported the driver to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the 56-year-old female resident of Compton was driving a 2006 GMC Sierra pick-up truck south on Atlantic Avenue at a high rate of speed. As the road veered to the right, the driver lost control and struck a parked 2008 GMC Yukon causing her vehicle to overturn. Preliminary investigations were unable to determine if the driver was wearing her seat belt at the time of the collision.
The driver had a valid driver’s license and it is believed drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
The identification of the driver is pending next of kin notification.
