On May 17, 2020 at approximately 3:54 a.m., officers from the Long Beach Department were dispatched to the area of Pacific Avenue and 5th Street regarding an assist fire call with a person down. Upon arrival officers found that Long Beach Fire Paramedics were rendering aid to a male adult subject who was lying in the number 2 lane of northbound traffic, on Pacific Avenue north of 5th Street.
The male subject was transported to a local hospital in critical condition were he later succumbed to his injuries.
Officers preliminary investigation revealed that the male subject was crawling east and west across the numbers 1 and 2 lanes of northbound Pacific Avenue. A vehicle only described as a white sedan, possibly a Nissan, traveling in the number 1 lane of northbound Pacific Avenue collides with the male. After the collision the vehicle continues northbound Pacific Avenue without stopping to render aid to the pedestrian and turns eastbound on 6th Street.
The identity of the victim is being withheld until the Los Angeles County Coroners office notifies his next of kin.Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact L.B.P.D Collision Investigation Detective David Lauro at (562) 570-7355.
