On Dec. 9, 2021 at approximately 3:41 p.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision in the 4500 block of Tolbert Avenue, which resulted in the death of a female adult.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult female pedestrian in the roadway. Long Beach Fire
Department personnel arrived shortly after and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was seated in a rolling walker on the sidewalk in front of her residence. An unattended vehicle that was parked in her driveway began to roll backwards and struck the pedestrian.
Family members who witnessed the collision stopped the vehicle from rolling any further and provided aid to the pedestrian until paramedics arrived. It is unclear at this time what caused the vehicle to roll backwards.
The pedestrian was identified as Helen Morris, a 102-year-old resident of Long Beach. The last operator of the vehicle, a family member, remained on scene and was cooperating with the investigation.
