On Friday, January 18, 2019 at approximately 6:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to Pacific Coast Highway and the 710 Freeway overpass regarding an injury hit-and-run between a vehicle and pedestrian that resulted in the death of an adult female.
Upon arrival, officers located the pedestrian victim, a 58-year-old female resident of Carson, non-responsive and lying along the south curb of the eastbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway just east of the 710 North off ramp for east traffic. The Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Her identity is being withheld at this time pending notification to next of kin.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle struck the victim while she was crossing Pacific Coast Highway near the 710 Freeway off-ramps. The victim was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision. After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene. The vehicle is being described as a blue, 2001-2003 Honda Civic.
