Special Investigations Division and Child Abuse detectives have arrested a suspect for sexual battery against minors and believe there may be additional victims.
In October 2022, a female juvenile victim contacted officers and informed them that she had been inappropriately touched by the suspect, identified as Michael Quigley, while he was volunteering as a swim and water polo coach at Jordan High School in Long Beach.
Detectives began investigating the case and identified additional juvenile victims. The suspect is believed to be responsible for sexual batteries going back to 2021. The case was presented to the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office, who filed a criminal complaint and issued an arrest warrant.
On June 26, 2023, detectives arrested Michael Quigley, a 74-year-old resident of Lakewood, for seven counts of sexual battery and seven counts of annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18. Following his arrest, Quigley was transported to the Long Beach City Jail for booking. Bail was set at $100,000.
Quigley had previously been employed by the Long Beach Unified School District. Detectives believe there may be additional victims and encourage any additional victims to come forward. Anyone with information can contact Child Abuse Detective Denise Green at (562) 570-7321.
