On Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2022, detectives from the Long Beach Police Department arrested James Earl Britt, a 54-year-old resident of Long Beach, for two counts of oral copulation with a person under the age of 18, two counts of sexual battery, and two counts of annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18.

In February 2022, Sex Crimes detectives began investigating a reported sexual assault incident involving a male adult suspect driving a 2005 Silver Volvo. The suspect coerced a 16-year-old female victim into entering his vehicle near Pacific Coast Highway and Temple Avenue before driving the victim to a separate location. The suspect then coerced the victim into performing sexual acts and dropped the victim off at another location.

During their investigation, detectives also identified Britt as the suspect in a similar incident involving a 17-year-old female victim which occurred in May 2018. Britt was driving a white Mercedes sedan during this incident.

Britt was arrested and subsequently booked at the Long Beach City Jail, where his bail was set at $100,000.

Detectives will be presenting their case to District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration later this week.

Detectives discovered the suspect has access to several other vehicles and believe there is a possibility of additional victims. They are encouraging any additional victims to come forward. Anyone with information can contact the Sex Crimes Detail at 562-570-7368.
