On Monday, April 11, 2016, at approximately 00:16 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Pacific Coast highway and Cherry Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision between 2 vehicles.

Upon arrival officers located the collision on Pacific Coast Highway between Gardenia Avenue and Cherry Avenue, and that 2 male juveniles from one of the vehicles were critically injured. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the 2 juveniles to a local hospital where they are listed in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 1998 Nissan Quest van being driven by Theodore Sims, a 63 year old resident of Long Beach, was traveling eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway at Gardenia when he attempted to turn left into a parking lot. A 2014 Honda Odyssey van being driven by Jean Bidondoyore, an 18 year old resident of Rancho Palos Verdes Estates, was traveling westbound Pacific Coast Highway from Cherry Avenue when Sims turned left in front of him. Both injured juveniles were in the Nissan Quest.

Driver Sims was detained for suspicion of DUI, but he also suffered injuries in the accident and was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted in stable condition. The accident is being investigated as possibly DUI related.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to call Collision Investigation Detail Detective Sirilo Garcia at (562) 570-7355
