Construction is expected to begin next month on a new garage to support public safety operations. As a result, the South Patrol Division will temporarily deploy from the West Patrol Division starting February 1, 2020. This move will be effective until the completion of the construction of the new parking structure, which is anticipated to last 18-24 months.

The South and West Patrol Divisions will continue to operate independently from one another, staffing and service in both divisions will not be affected. South Patrol Division officers will deploy from the West Patrol Division substation at the beginning of each shift and will continue to patrol their assigned beats in the downtown area as normal. All Measure A funded positions will remain in place and will continue to be located at the Public Safety Building downtown.

The proposed five-level parking structure, approved by Long Beach City Council in early 2019, will provide parking to support police operations, and provide more availability for paid parking at nearby parking locations.
