A drug investigation case involving the overdose of five individuals has led to the arrest of a male adult suspect and the seizure of drugs and firearms.
On Sept. 24, 2023, at approximately 2:52 a.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Grand Avenue regarding an overdose with five individuals. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported three males and a female to local hospitals in stable condition. Another female was treated at the scene and not transported.
Drug Investigation Section detectives began investigating the source of the drugs causing the overdose. Detectives identified a male adult suspect and authored a search warrant to further their investigation.
On Oct. 6, 2023, at approximately 1:15 p.m., detectives, along with East Division Directed Enforcement Team officers conducted a search warrant at a residence located in the 400 block of Walnut Avenue resulting in an arrest. Officers also located the suspect in the area and subsequently arrested him.
Officers recovered drugs believed to be for the purpose of sales, an AR-15 lower receiver, a pistol, and firearm magazines.
The suspect, identified as Daniel Giannattasio, a 32-year-old resident of Long Beach,was booked for possession for sale of psilocybin mushrooms. Bail was set at $0 dollars,and he was releasedon his own recognizance.
Detectives believe this suspect to be responsible for the five overdoses on September 24.
Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
