The Long Beach Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting which occurred on September 1, 2026.

At approximately 12:24 a.m., officers responded to 200 block of Aquarium Way regarding a hit shooting with multiple victims.

Upon arrival, officers located three male adults with injuries. Two male adult victims were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A third male adult victim was treated at the scene.

Officers quickly identified a possible suspect and suspect vehicle. They located the suspect vehicle, occupied by the male adult suspect, in the area of Burnett Street and Pacific Avenue. Officers attempted a traffic stop, however, the suspect failed to stop, resulting in a vehicle pursuit.

During the pursuit, while on the northbound 710 Freeway, the suspect fired shots towards officers and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The pursuit concluded when the suspect vehicle collided with a pole in the city of Los Angeles. The suspect was taken into custody following a use of force (40MM less lethal).

The suspect was not struck by gunfire. He was arrested and transported to the hospital for injuries related to the vehicle collision.

No officers were injured.

The firearm was recovered.

The circumstances and motive for the initial shooting incident remain under investigation.

Officers were equipped with body-worn cameras. LBPD is in the process of reviewing the footage and will make that available to the public as soon as possible.

As with all officer-involved shooting incidents, the Department will be conducting a full and thorough multi-level review of the incident.
