Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision which occurred on March 8, 2024, which resulted in the death of a 15-year-old girl.

On March 8, 2024 at approximately 1:38 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 7th Street and Orange Avenue to assist the Orange Police Department with a traffic collision that occurred at the end of a vehicle pursuit.

The preliminary investigation indicates Orange PD had been in pursuit of a suspect driving a stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle was traveling westbound on 7th Street at a high rate of speed, when it collided with another vehicle in the intersection of 7th Street and Orange Avenue, subsequently veering out of control. The stolen vehicle then collided with five additional parked vehicles before becoming disabled in the roadway. The driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene on foot.

A passenger in the stolen vehicle, a 15-year-old girl, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition with multiple life-threatening injuries. On March 18, 2024, LBPD detectives were notified that the girl succumbed to her injuries on March 13, 2024. The girl’s identity is being withheld as she is a minor.

The driver of the vehicle struck by the suspect vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Long Beach Fire. The original stolen vehicle incident and subsequent pursuit are being investigated by Orange Police Department.
