On Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at approximately 8:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and 2nd Street to assist the Seal Beach Police Department (SBPD) with a multi-vehicle traffic collision that occurred at the end of a vehicle pursuit.
Upon arrival, officers learned SBPD had been in pursuit of a suspect who was later determined to have a no-bail arrest warrant issued by the United States Marshall’s Office. The vehicle had fled from their officers and entered the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and 2nd Street against a red light. The suspect vehicle then collided with eight other vehicles near the intersection of 2nd Street and Pacific Coast Highway. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by SBPD officers.
As a result of the collision, seven people sustained injuries; five of which were critical injuries that required them to be transported to local hospitals. A female adult was determined deceased at the scene.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner-Coroner.
The suspect was identified as Chaz Lamar Long, a 39-year-old resident of Antioch, CA. He was taken into custody and booked for murder, felony child endangerment, felony evading, and felony hit-and-run. Detectives anticipate filing the case with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office later this week.
