UPDATE 3/4/24:
Homicide detectives have arrested the suspect responsible for the March 3, 2024 fatal stabbing on 2nd Street.
Through their investigation, Homicide detectives recovered security camera footage, worked with business and community partners, and identified the suspect responsible for murder. On March 4, 2024, detectives safely arrested the suspect at LAX Airport. He was transported to Long Beach City Jail without incident. A search warrant was later served on the suspect's residence.
The suspect has been identified as Brandon Nguyen, a 29-year-old resident of Huntington Beach. He was booked for murder and is being held without bail.
“We will not tolerate acts of violence in our community and we will commit all available resources to ensuring that those responsible for crimes like this are held accountable,” said Chief of Police Wally Hebeish. “Within a matter of minutes, our officers were there to render medical aid and secure the scene. In addition, Homicide detectives responded to the scene and worked around the clock with our Special Investigations Division to identify, locate, and safely apprehend the person believed responsible for this crime.”
The victim is a 20-year-old resident of Long Beach. Additional information about his identity will be provided by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner upon positive identification.
Detectives anticipate presenting the case to the District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration later this week.

Homicide detectives are investigating a fatal stabbing which occurred on March 3, 2024, resulting in the death of a male adult victim.
At approximately 1:06 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 5200 block of East 2nd Street regarding a stabbing which had just occurred. The LBPD had additional officers on patrol overnight working overtime shifts. They were on another call for service in the area and were on scene within two minutes. Upon their arrival, officers located a male adult victim who had been stabbed in the upper body. They immediately began rendering medical aid until the arrival of the Long Beach Fire Department. LBFD personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The victim’s identity is being withheld, pending next of kin notification.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates two groups of subjects were involved in a fight. During the fight, a male adult suspect stabbed the victim. The suspect and subjects fled the scene.
The LBPD will have additional police presence in the area today, including patrol officers, detectives, and Neighborhood Safety Bike Team, to engage with residents and businesses as well as further the investigation.
