On Tuesday, October 1, 2019, detectives arrested 35-year-old Nancy Interiano of Long Beach. Detectives believe Interiano had knowledge of Quintana's involvement in the shooting and traveled with Quintana to Arizona to assist him in his efforts to avoid or escape arrest, trial or conviction.
Interiano was located by detectives while leaving a business in the 300 block of W. Willow St. She has been booked for accessory after the fact and is currently being held in the Long Beach City Jail on $2,050,000 bail.
Through their investigation, Long Beach Police Department Homicide Detectives identified 31-year-old Richard Quintana of Long Beach as a suspect in the August 23rd shooting death of Johnny Akins.
Detectives located Quintana in Arizona and, with the assistance of the Glendale, Arizona Police Department, he was taken into custody on a pre-existing Post Release Community Supervision (P.R.C.S.) violation warrant.
On Thursday, September 19, 2019, detectives extradited Quintana to Long Beach where he was booked for murder, the P.R.C.S. warrant, and one other unrelated warrant and is being held on $3,080,250 bail.
The investigation is ongoing.

On Thursday, August 22, 2019, at 1:05 a.m., an officer was on routine patrol when they noticed a crowd of people gathered on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of West Pacific Coast Highway. The officer stopped to further investigate and they were advised by a witness on scene that someone had been shot. Officers contacted a male adult victim who had gunshot wounds to his upper and lower torso.
Officers immediately began performing life-saving measures on the victim. The Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No information of the shooting was obtained from witnesses as the crowd dispersed when officers began to arrive on scene. No suspect description is available at this time.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was inside of an illegal gambling establishment located in the 1500 block of West Pacific Coast Highway when he was shot. Evidence of the shooting was located inside of the establishment along with several illegal gambling machines.
On Friday, August 23, the Long Beach Police Department was notified that the victim had died at the hospital. Homicide detectives responded and began a murder investigation. The cause of death is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office.
The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Johnny Akins of Long Beach.
The motive of the shooting is currently unknown and detectives are actively working to gather additional information through the ongoing investigation.
