Homicide detectives are investigating a murder that occurred on March 23, 2024, in the area of 7th Street and Maine Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

At approximately 10:22 a.m., officers responded to the area of 7th Street and Magnolia Avenue regarding a report of multiple gunshots and a possible suspect vehicle fleeing the scene.

Officers responded to the area, and contacted a male adult victim on the ground, near 7th Street and Maine Avenue. Simultaneously, another group of officers located the suspect vehicle near Anaheim Street and Pine Avenue. The victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers attempted life-saving measures until being relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel, who determined the victim deceased at the scene.

The suspect vehicle was occupied by two male adult suspects. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, later taking the two suspects into custody. A firearm was also recovered.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene. Through their preliminary investigation, detectives determined the victim and suspects were known to each other and engaged in a dispute that resulted in the shooting. The suspects fled the scene in their vehicle before being apprehended by officers.

The victim has been identified as Anthony Valentino Lopez, a 27-year-old resident of Long Beach.

The motive for the shooting and circumstances are still under investigation.

Following the suspects’ arrests, they were transported to Long Beach City Jail for booking.

The first suspect has been identified as Alejandro Lara Delgado, a 33-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked on one count of murder. Bail was set at $2,000,000.

The second suspect has been identified as Xavier Alexandro Vasquez, a 37-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked on one count of murder and two unrelated outstanding warrants. Bail was set at $2,020,000.

Detectives will present this case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office later this week for filing consideration.
