On November 22, 2020, at approximately 1:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Chestnut to assist the Long Beach Fire Department on an unwelcome person call that was later upgraded to a stabbing, which resulted in the death of a female adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a female adult victim on the ground in the courtyard suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds to her upper torso. Officers immediately began life-saving measures on the victim until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and took over the medical aid. The victim was determined to be deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Vanessa Chacon, a resident of Long Beach.
Based on the preliminary investigation, a verbal dispute occurred between the victim and the suspect, who are known to one another. The dispute escalated to an assault, which resulted in the stabbing. The exact motive for the attack remains under investigation. Through their investigation, detectives arrested 23-year-old Daquan Ross at his residence in the City of Los Angeles. Ross was booked for murder into the Long Beach Police Department jail and is being held on $2,000,000 bail.
Detectives anticipate presenting the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office later this week for filing consideration.
