On Oct. 3, 2022, at approximately 10:25 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Andy Street for a report of a person who was shot inside of his home, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
When officers arrived, they found the man suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Ocasis Ku of Long Beach.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate and determined the suspect, 38-year-old Dany Hernandez of Los Angeles, arrived unannounced at the home of the victim and his former girlfriend. He forced his way into the home, shot the victim, and left the scene by unknown means prior to the officers’ arrival.
Detectives later learned the suspect and his former partner share custody of their 5-year-old son. Sometime after the incident occurred, the suspect traveled to the boy’s school in Los Angeles and picked him up in an unknown vehicle.
Through their investigation, detectives learned the suspect was at a residence in the City of Los Angeles. On Oct 4, 2022, at approximately 1:00 a.m. the LBPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team responded to the area, executed a search warrant on the residence, arrested the suspect, and safely rescued the boy. He was unharmed and has been reunited with his family.
Dany Hernandez was booked for one count of murder. Bail was set at $2,000,000.
Detectives discovered that the suspect’s brother, 39-year-old Ismael Hernandez of Los Angeles, was aiding the suspect in evading arrest. On Oct 4, 2022, at approximately 3:35 a.m., officers arrested Ismael Hernandez in Long Beach. He was booked for one count of accessory to a crime. Bail was set at $1,000,000.
Detectives will present the case against both suspects to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office later this week for filing consideration.
At this time, the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
