On Dec. 11, 2020 at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shots call in the area of Drake Park, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim laying on a walkway leading up to a residence in the 900 block of Loma Vista Drive suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Officers rendered medical aid until the arrival of the Long Beach Fire Department, who transported the victim to a local hospital. On Dec. 13, 2020, detectives were informed that the victim succumbed to his injures at the hospital on Dec. 12, 2020. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Miguel Reyes, a resident of Long Beach.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the victim was with a female adult and were getting items out of their vehicle when they were confronted by a group of suspects who began shooting at them. The female victim was not injured. The motive for the shooting is believed to be gang-related.

The suspects are described as male adults and fled the scene on foot.
