UPDATE 10/26/21 at 11:30 a.m. - The victim has been identified in bold below.
On Oct. 23, 2021, at approximately 6:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 6200 block of Downey Avenue regarding a shooting that resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a male adult lying on the ground near a service road, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers rendered medical aid to the victim until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Special Investigations detectives responded to the scene, and at this time, the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown. Early this morning, the victim succumbed to his injuries. Homicide detectives have since responded to the hospital and have taken over the investigation.
The victim has has been identified as Sirjohn Hardiman, a 21-year-old resident of Long Beach.
