UPDATE 2/18/21:

On Feb. 18, 2021, at approximately 2:40 am, South Division Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Gaviota Avenue regarding a call to check the well-being of a subject banging on the front door of residences. Upon arrival, officers contacted Peter Hairston, a 44-year-old resident of Long Beach.

Upon further investigation, officers determined Hairston had been identified as a suspect for a Feb. 16, 2021 murder and contacted Homicide Detectives who coordinated the arrest of Hairston. Hairston was booked for murder into the Long Beach City Jail and is being held on $2,000,000 bail.

Detectives arrested Alexus Belgrove, a 22-year-old resident of Long Beach, on Feb. 17, 2021. Detectives believe Belgrove was an active participant in the shooting and assisted Hairston. She was booked for accessory to commit murder and is currently being held on $1,000,000 bail in the Long Beach City Jail.

The victim was identified as Dwight Neals, a 31-year-old resident of Long Beach. The suspects and the victim were known to each other, however the motive which lead to the shooting is unknown.

Detectives anticipate presenting the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office next week for filing consideration.

Original News Release 2/17/21:
On Feb. 16, 2021, at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Olive Avenue regarding a victim in need of medical attention inside a residence, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

The calling party reported returning home and finding a male roommate was laying on the floor and not responding. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Officers began life-saving measures and requested paramedics. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and rendered medical aid, however the victim was determined deceased at the scene. At this time, the victim is only being identified as a 31-year-old male pending notification to next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Through their preliminary investigation, detectives believe the shooting occurred at the residence. The motive for the shooting and additional suspect information is currently unknown. Detectives are actively working to gather additional information to further the ongoing investigation.
