Detectives from the Special Investigations Division have arrested the suspect responsible for the February 18th murder on East 2nd Street.
Through their investigation, detectives identified the suspect and obtained a search warrant for his residence. On Feb. 19, 2024, with the assistance of the SWAT Team, detectives served the search warrant in the 1400 block of West 9th Street in the city of San Pedro. SWAT officers took the suspect into custody. He has been identified as Christopher Rene Salguero, a 24-year-old resident of San Pedro. He was booked for murder, discharging a firearm resulting in great bodily injury, and a pending felony charge out of Riverside County. His bail is set at $3,025,000.
The motive for the murder remains under investigation. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office this week for filing consideration.

Homicide detectives are investigating a murder that occurred on Feb.18, 2024, in the 5300 block of E. 2nd Street.
At approximately 12:58 a.m., officers responded to the 5300 block of E. 2nd Street regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was initially engaged in a physical altercation with an unknown male adult suspect, which escalated when the suspect revealed a firearm and shot the victim. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
The victim has been identified as Johnny Santos, a 32-year-old resident of Long Beach.
