On Oct. 26, 2021, at approximately 9:39 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots heard in the area of 14th Street and Cedar Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

While officers were responding to the initial report, a second witness reported a man down in the 200 block of West 15th Street. Officers arrived on scene and observed a male adult suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body. Officers rendered life-saving aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

During the preliminary investigation, detectives from the Gang Detail responded to the scene and learned patrol officers had stopped a vehicle of interest and detained a male adult subject. However, detectives later determined the male subject and his vehicle were not involved in the shooting, and he was released.

Homicide detectives were notified and responded to the scene after the victim was pronounced deceased. Their preliminary investigation has revealed the victim was riding or walking his bicycle on 15th Street near Pacific Avenue when he was confronted by an unknown male suspect. The two engaged in a verbal argument, followed by the suspect discharging multiple gunshots toward the victim. The suspect was last seen entering the passenger side of a newer sedan which was last seen fleeing northbound on Pacific Avenue from 15th Street.

While the motive remains under investigation, at this time, the shooting is being investigated as gang-related.

The identity of the victim and notification to next of kin will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner–Coroner’s Office. The unidentified victim appears to be a male in his thirties.
