Update 3/12/22:

On March 10, 2022, LBPD Homicide Detectives, with the assistance of the Stanislaus County Special Investigations Unit, located and arrested Stanley Shaw, a 42-year-old resident of Turlock, for the January 30, 2022 murder in the 200 block of Atlantic Avenue.

Through their investigation, detectives identified Shaw as a suspect and began coordinating his arrest. On March 10, 2022, a Multi- Agency Task Force located and arrested Shaw during a traffic stop in the area of W. Tuolumne Road and N. Golden State Boulevard in Turlock, California. On March 11, 2022, Shaw was transported from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Jail to the Long Beach Police Department. He was booked on one count of murder and is currently being held on $2,000,000 bail. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office early next week.

While the motive is still under investigation, detectives believe the victim and suspect were known to each other and were involved in a verbal dispute which escalated into a shooting. Detectives served search warrants in the 13000 Block of Carl Street in the City of Pacoima and the 200 Block of H Street in the City of Turlock. Both search warrant services resulted in the discovery of evidence which linked Shaw to the crime.

The victim in the Jan. 30, 2022 murder has been identified as Charles Ogletree, a 42-year-old resident of Long Beach.

The Long Beach Police Department would like to thank our partners - the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, the Turlock Police Department, and the Stanislaus Special Investigations Unit - for their assistance in apprehending Shaw.

Original News Release 1/31/22:

On Jan. 30, 2022, at approximately 9:26 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots near the 500 Block of East Broadway, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers were directed by citizens to an apartment unit in the 200 Block of Atlantic Avenue, where they located a male adult victim inside suffering from multiple gunshots to his upper and lower body. Officers immediately began rendering life-saving aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and determined the victim deceased at the scene.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene. Through their preliminary investigation, they discovered that a small group of persons was gathered inside the apartment when an argument erupted between the victim and a male adult suspect. The argument escalated when the suspect produced and discharged a firearm multiple times toward the victim, striking him and causing the injuries that ultimately resulted in his death. No other persons were physically injured during the incident. The suspect has only been described as a male adult who fled the apartment on foot immediately after the shooting.

The investigation to determine the motive remains underway. Detectives are actively investigating the relationship between all parties involved, including the victim, suspect, the other persons gathered at the apartment, and the apartment itself, to determine their role in the incident.

The Department of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner will work to positively identify the victim and notify the next of kin. At this time, the victim is only being identified as an adult male in his forties.
