Homicide detectives arrest five suspects in connection to the Nov. 26, 2023, murder near the 1700 block of Pine Avenue.

On March 7, 2024, detectives from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Special Investigations Division with the assistance of the LBPD SWAT Team, and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) served search warrants in the cities of Long Beach, Compton, and Lancaster which led to the arrest of five individuals in connection to the Nov. 26, 2023 murder of Andre McClendon, a 41-year-old resident of Long Beach, near the 1700 block of Pine Avenue. The arrested individuals are listed below:

  • Jose Ramos, a 20-year-old male resident of Lancaster, was arrested at a residence in Compton.  He was booked for murder and is being held on $2,000,000 bail. 
  • Adonis Reese, an 18-year-old male resident of Long Beach, was arrested at his residence.  He was booked for murder and is being held on $2,000.000 bail. 
  • Joshua Spencer-Morgan, a 20-year-old male resident of Long Beach, was arrested at his
    residence in Long Beach.  He was booked for murder and is being held on $2,000,000 bail. 
  • Emily Castaneda, a 20-year-old female resident of Compton, was arrested at her residence.  She was booked for accessory to murder and arson.  She is being held on $50,000 bail.

  • Angelica Esquivel, a 24-year-old female resident of Long Beach, was arrested at her residence.  She was booked for accessory to murder and arson.  She is being held on $50,000 bail. 

Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration next week. While the investigation remains ongoing, at this time, Homicide detectives believe the motive to be gang related.

Homicide detectives are investigating a murder that occurred on Nov. 26, 2023 in the 1700 block of Pine Avenue.

At approximately 2:18 a.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of Pine Avenue regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with gunshot wounds to the upper body. Officers rendered medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived to treat the victim. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene. Through their preliminary investigation, detectives determined the victim was shot shortly after being approached by several male suspects. The suspects fled in a vehicle before police arrived.

The victim has been identified as Andre McClendon, a 41-year-old resident of Long Beach.

The motive for the shooting and circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.
