Homicide detectives arrest a suspect responsible for the July 24, 2023 murder of  a male adult.

On July 31, 2023, detectives from the Special Investigations Division arrested Saleem Omom Smith, a 46-year-old resident of Long Beach for the July 24, 2023 murder of Marcus George.

Detectives located and arrested Smith near the 1700 block of Magnolia. He was booked for one count of murder and is being held on $2,000,000 bail.

Detectives believe George and Smith were roommates and involved in a dispute, which escalated into a fight and resulted in George’s death. Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration later this week.

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a male adult.
 
 

Homicide detectives are investigating a murder that occurred on July 24, 2023, in the 1700 block of Magnolia Avenue. 

At approximately 9:05 p.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of Magnolia Avenue regarding a report of a male subject inside a residence who was unresponsive. 

Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male adult victim on the floor inside a residence, suffering from injuries to his upper body. The Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene and determined the victim deceased.   

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. Through their preliminary investigation, detectives determined the victim was inside the residence when he was assaulted.  The victim has not been identified. 

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner will work to identify the victim and notify the next of kin. 

No suspect information is available and the motive for the assault is unknown.
